The Post-Mortem Pregnancy Loss Project, which has been operating in NSW, VIC and QLD for the past two breeding seasons wound up at the end of November.
Funded through the AgriFutures Thoroughbred Horses Program, the project gave breeders access to free post-mortems on eligible foetuses as part of a pilot to determine the most effective way to establish a national approach to motioning pregnancy loss in Australia's thoroughbred mare population.
The results from the post-mortems have been entered into an anonymous database and analysed for trends and causes, with the aim of reducing pregnancy loss both in the short and long term.
A final report outlining the project's findings will be published by AgriFutures later this year.
Thank you to all the farms who have participated in the project we hope it’s beneficial for all breeders.
