Congratulations to the Leading Sires for 2020:
Spirit of Boom remains in the record books. This year he’s won three of the four Queensland Champion Sire awards – Leading Queensland Sire by Earnings and by Winners as well as Champion Queensland 2YO Sire.
In the 2019/20 season, Spirit of Boom had 48 2 year old runners for 15 winners (16 wins) collecting $1,050,441 and winning the Queensland Champion 2YO Sire.
Overall, he had 204 runners for 96 winners, five of them Stakes winners and a total of 144 wins earning a total of $6,120,720 to win both titles of Queensland Champion Sire on Earnings and on Winners.
He’s no stranger to stallion trophies, named both Champion Freshman Sire and Champion 2YO Sire in 2017 and in the 2018/19 season he was crowned Queensland Champion Stallion.
Congratulations to Scott and Grania McAlpine and all the team at Eureka Stud for this wonderful result.
Aquis’ smart young stallion, Spill the Beans (pictured) has had a tremendous season, taking out the Queensland First Season Sire, and ranking second on the National table. Spill the Beans has 45 runners for 13 winners (22 wins) with earnings totaling $1,033,561.
There was a lot of talk about Spill the Bean’s potential and he’s clearly lived up to that and I think on the back of his first crop’s results he will definitely be one to watch in the future.
The Queensland Broodmare of the Year was once again hotly contested with three worthy finalists:
COUPE EXPRESS dam of Pippie (Written Tycoon x Coupe Express) $597,950 11: 5-2-0 owned by Eureka Stud
REZONET dam of Tyzone (Written Tycoon x Rezonet) $1,286,500 41:17-4-3 owned by Mr B Smith, Waylon J Stud
HUSS ON FIRE dam of Rothfire (Rothesay x Huss on Fire) $758,400 7:6-1-0 owned by Gleeson Thoroughbreds
Rezonet was named the Broodmare of the Year. Rezonet began her racing career with Gai Waterhouse in Sydney and after two mediocre starts in NSW she headed to North Queensland to the stables of Janelle Ryan.
Under the care of Ryan, Rezonet put together three straight wins before being retired with the race record of nine starts for 3 wins.
Rezonet, by the Champion Broodmare Sire Hussonet, headed to the breeding barn and her first three foals produced two winners including the very handy Five Stars, the winner of 10 races.
Fourth foal to race is the 2020 Stradbroke Champion Tyzone.
Tyzone has started 43 times for 17 wins including three Stakes, four seconds and three thirds with his most notable performances :
Winning the 2019 Listed 1200m Goldmarket Handicap on the Gold Coast
Winning the 2019 Group 3 BRC Sprint at Doomben over 1350 metres
A second placing in the 2019 Group 1 Stradbroke
Winning the 2020 Group 1, 1400m Stradbroke at Eagle Farm.
Like his dam Rezonet, Tyzone started his racing career in North Queensland winning four of his first six starts with the highlight so far being the victory in Australia’s time honoured Group 1, 1400 metre Handicap for the Gold Coast’s Edmond’s racing stable.
Rezonet has the breeding record of five foals to race, for three winners including the Group 1 winner Tyzone.
To date, Tyzone has amassed prizemoney totalling A$1,286,500 and it’s for these outstanding performances that Rezonet is the 2019/20 Queensland Broodmare Of The Year.
Congratulations to Mr Brian Smith of Waylon J Stud who owns Rezonet.
