The TBQA is working hard to address the shortage of qualified and experienced staff to work in the breeding industry.
To this end, we are supporting the Australian Trade College Equine Academy in their search for studs around Toowoomba, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich and Brisbane to host tours for their students.
It would be great to see as many studs as possible support this initiative. Please contact the TBQA office on info@queenslandbreeders.com.au if you can have these students tour your stud.
Below is information about the ATC Equine Academy:
Our academy began out of our Gold Coast campus, and we are partnered with Gold Coast Turf Club, and now as our academy has grown to 4 more of our schools this year, we are also partnered with Brisbane Racing Club, Toowoomba Turf Club, Sunshine Coast Turf Club and Ipswich Turf Club.
We have already done a lot of work with Justin Wetzler at AQUIS Farm in Canungra, where they hosted tours of their facilities, graciously allowed us to use their stables to complete Cert II Racing training with Racing Qld, and also hosted many of our young people for work experience (WEX).
If any stud is able to host our students, we would bring them at an arranged time for a few hours to see how they operate, learn about career pathways and opportunities. This can potentially lead to WEX at the stud, which is fully insured by AITC and an unpaid placement of up to 3 weeks per term. This can in turn lead to a school-based traineeship, and then full-time position post-year 12 graduation.
Please see below a short video of when the academy had just begun.
