There's four exciting new stallions to stand in Queensland, giving even more choice to breeders in the 2020 season.
Olemdo (by Declaration of War), Dubious (by Not a Single Doubt), Goodfella (by Snitzel) and Sun City (Zoustar) will boost the sire ranks in the Sunshine State.
DUBIOUS
NOT A SINGLE DOUBT (AUS) x SUSPICIEUSE (FR) by ELUSIVE CITY (USA)
Standing his debut season at Aquis in 2020 is NOT A SINGLE DOUBT’S highly talented Breeders’ Plate winning son DUBIOUS.
The fastest winner of the sire-making Gr.3 Breeders’ Plate (1000m), DUBIOUS' time of 56.45 eclipsed those clocked by all past winners including CAPITALIST, VANCOUVER, PIERRO, SEBRING, SNITZEL AND CHOISIR.
By the same sire as Aquis’ sensational Gr.1 Golden Slipper and Champion 2YO elect FARNAN from the extended family of Champion sires STREET CRY and SHAMARDAL, DUBIOUS’ mental toughness and sensational juvenile ability saw the colt finish second in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
He captured the Gr.2 Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben, a race won previously by the exciting sire BRAZEN BEAU, before finishing his 2YO campaign with a gutsy fifth, beaten a length and a half by triple Gr.1 winner THE BOSTONIAN in the weight-for-age Gr.1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m).
“DUBIOUS displayed toughness and speed which cannot be denied. He has all the qualities that breeders seek, natural muscle, good bone, presence and a good temperament.” said Aquis CEO, Tony “Tubba” Williams.
GOODFELLA
SNITZEL (AUS) x MOVIE (AUS) by RED RANSOM (USA)
A precocious 2YO who trained on. Bred in the purple, a son of the champion sire SNITZEL and from one of the best family’s in the Stud Book.
Winner of the ATC Brian Crowley Stakes at 3 and of more than $1.1 million in prizemoney.
Bjorn Baker said: “GOODFELLA was one of the toughest horses I have trained.”
Goodfella will stand at Hopetoun Farm and Hazelwood Partnership.
SUN CITY
ZOUSTAR (AUS) x ROULETTES (AUS) by FLYING SPUR (AUS)
ZOUSTAR’S most precocious colt to date – October debutant and Gr.3 winner as a December 2YO.
SUN CITY ( pictured ) was favourite for the $2m Magic Millions 2YO Classic after his win in the B.J. McLachlan Stakes (Gr.3). “He was so sharp in the McLachlan. I thought we’d win the Magic Millions.” Jockey, James McDonald.
A non-congenital injury suffered when he jumped the crossing after winning the B.J. McLachlan curtailed SUN CITY’S career.
A $525,000 Magic Millions yearling and the most expensive ZOUSTAR colt sold in 2018. “A stunning individual. Clearly the best Zoustar seen at a sale throughout the year.” Bloodstock agent David Redvers
Son of ZOUSTAR: Champion First Season Sire, Champion Second Season Sire and Champion 3YO Sire.
From an early stakes-winning 2YO by FLYING SPUR from a commercial black type family.
“He was a genuine Gr.1 talent. We clocked him as quick as SUNLIGHT (ZOUSTAR) on occasions. Sadly, injury prevented him from fulfilling that ability.” Trainer Tony McEvoy.
SUN CITY’S owners are some of Australia’s most prominent and successful breeders. Leverage off their belief and investment by securing a breeding right. He will stand at Telemon Stud in 2020.
OLMEDO
Globally recognised as the highest rated son of Declaration Of War, Gr.1 French 2,000 Guineas (1600m) winner Olmedo is set to join fellow first season sire Dubious (Not A Single Doubt) at Aquis’ Canungra property for the 2020 breeding season.
A 2YO debut winner by four lengths at Deauville followed by a second in the Gr.1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (1600m) behind Cartier Champion 2YO Filly Happily, Olmedo was ultimately named France’s Champion 2YO of 2017 on the World Thoroughbred Rankings, and it was during his Classic season that his win in the French 2,000 Guineas confirmed him as a serious prospect.
“My time in Europe afforded me the opportunity to experience elite classic racing and exposure to elite quality bloodlines,” stated Aquis CEO Tony (Tubba) Williams.
“Olmedo is the perfect stallion for Queensland and Aquis. He is the highest rated son of Declaration of War (War Front), the French Champion 2YO in 2017, he won the Gr.1 French 2,000 Guineas at 3, like Shamardal and Lope De Vega before him, and he trained on to further stakes success at 4, confirming his class and durability.”
“As an outstanding physical specimen that is completely free of Danehill blood, Olmedo will be the perfect outcross for the abundance of Danehill line mares, adding class, elegance, precocity and strength to an evolving Queensland broodmare population.”
Retiring with a Timeform Rating equal to Spirit Of Boom and Written Tycoon and higher than Better Than Ready, who all commenced their stud careers in Queensland, Olmedo will stand at a fee that offers outstanding value when compared with many fellow first-season sires.
Olmedo defeated Gr.1-winning Champions U S Navy Flag, Robin Of Navan and Polydream, as well as fellow Gr.1 winners Masar and Phoenix Of Spain throughout his career.
With a higher rating than his sire at 2 and the equal at 3, Olmedo is the highest rated runner of his sire’s 45 stakes performers, highlighted by four other individual Gr.1 winners; Vow And Declare, Winning Ways and Warning, all elite level winners in Australia, as well as the 2YO Canadian Gr.1 winner Decorated Invader.
