The annual TBQA AGM and luncheon was held on Saturday, August 3 with forty members attending. This year, the committee positions of Richard Forster, Mike Kelly and Steve Morley were vacated as per the three-year rotational term under the TBQA’s constitution. No-one contested those positions so all three committee members have been re-elected unopposed. I’d like to congratulate them and thank them all for their hard work and dedication that they’ve shown not just to the TBQA, but to the racing industry as a whole.
We were thrilled to hear a few words from Graham Quirk, the new Thoroughbred representative on the Racing Queensland Board. It’s clear that Graham will have a real hands-on approach, starting from the grass roots of racing, and we look forward to seeing how he progresses the industry.
Following the AGM, TBQA member, and co-editor of our Queensland Stallions Magazine, Peter Howard, kindly opened the Racing Archive which displays racing history and memorabilia including the McGill Library, the Stanley Collection (a magnificent display of trophies) and the Pascoe gallery of racing photographs. We all enjoyed admiring the history of our industry and this is well worth a visit when you’re next at Doomben.
We then enjoyed the BRC’s National Jockey’s Trust luncheon in The Grove marquee, to raise funds for injured jockeys and their families. This is always a terrific event and credit to the BRC’s Adrienne Coats for making it such a great day that the TBQA is proud to support.
