Lyndhurst Stud has played an integral role in Queensland’s breeding and racing industry for well over 100 years and they are showing no signs of resting on their laurels – what a racing year so far!!
Their first season sire Better Than Ready ( pictured) has taken all before him. He recently sired winner number #16 just over a week ago (24/4) with his daughter Wishfilly from the Paul Butterworth stable showing tremendous courage to hold off all challengers at Ipswich. Then, three days later, his unbeaten son, 2yo gelding Jagged Edge became Better Than Ready’s third Stakes winner on Saturday (27/4) for the season, taking out the time honoured Dalrello Stakes at Eagle Farm for trainer Stuart Kendrick and connections.
And just to prove it’s not a one-man show, Lyndhurst’s other sire, Rothesay book-ended the Eagle Farm program on Saturday (27/4) with Sir Barnabus winning the opening event, the 2200 metre BM 75 for trainer Jason Edwards and jockey Michael Cahill.
Highlighting Rothesay’s versatility, his Stradbroke-bound 4yo gelding, Chapter And Verse, annihilated his opposition first-up in the Class 6 over 1200 metres by an ever increasing three lengths as he hit the line.
Trainer Desleigh Forster has always had a very good opinion of Rothesay’s progeny, after training the smart sprinter Too Good To Refuse and she believes Chapter And Verse could be better, hence pointing him towards Australia’s premier Group One 1400 metre event.
That made it three metropolitan wins for the day for the Lyndurst Stud stallion roster.
A century on, Queensland’s Lyndhurst Stud just keeps on keeping on.
