Racing Queensland Chief Executive Officer Brendan Parnell said he is excited with preparations ahead of Saturday’s $1.5 million Aquis QTIS Jewel Race Day on the Gold Coast.
Late last year, RQ announced the Aquis QTIS 2YO Jewel would see its stakes increased to $500,000, while the TAB QTIS 3YO Jewel would also be bolstered to $200,000.
The prize money increases, which includes double stakes for eligible QTIS winners of all supporting races, were supported by Aquis and TAB and has created Queensland’s latest seven-figure race day.
The meeting is a forerunner to next week’s Magic Millions March QTIS Sale with 392 yearlings to go on offer on Monday and Tuesday and has been strongly supported with capacity fields for Saturday’s bumper card.
“We are all looking forward to an exciting Jewel Day and showcasing the Queensland racing industry,” Mr Parnell said.
“It complements our Summer and Winter carnivals and provides added incentives to back Queensland and buy Queensland.
“Our entries show the initiative has been well received – we anticipate the sales will be similar – and we’re heartened by the bumper fields that have been secured for Saturday.
“It will be a great day of racing.”
While the highlights of Saturday’s meetings including the 2YO and 3YO Jewels, the Listed Goldmarket Handicap winner will receive $145,000 if they are QTIS eligible.
Meanwhile, Racing Queensland has also advised there would be a change in rail position for the Jewel.
The decision was made following the discovery of an irrigation leak on the inside 3m of the track in the home straight, with the rail amended to 3.5m from the 400m mark to the winning post.
The rail placement will have no bearing on field sizes with the 10-race program scheduled to proceed as planned at 11.35am on Saturday.
