Boomsara prevailed in an enthralling three-way battle in Saturday’s $2 million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) on the Gold Coast in a triumph for the locals.
Purchased by Brisbane trainer Chris Munce for $45,000 at last year’s sales from Eureka Stud near Toowoomba, the Guineas victory registered the first feature race win for Eureka’s emerging stallion Spirit Of Boom.
Boomsara ($3.60), who earned connections $1.2 million with his victory, had just a nose up his sleeve on the line over Bondi ($10) with the favourite Outback Barbie ($2.25) in third.
Damian Browne had been booked to ride Boomsara but instead watched the race from hospital after being admitted on Thursday with abdominal problems.
His replacement was Sydney rider Tim Clark, who earned $60,000 for his work.
