Racing Queensland today welcomed UBET as the major sponsor of the 2018 Queensland Winter Racing Carnival in a move that will provide up to $595,000 in bonuses across all three codes of racing.
Racing Queensland and UBET announced the deal at this morning’s Channel 7 Brisbane Racing Carnival Launch in Brisbane, which gets under way with four listed races at the Brisbane Racing Club (Doomben) on Saturday.
The significant sponsorship deal showcases Tabcorp’s commitment to enhance its sponsorship and promotion of Queensland racing, following its merger with Tatts Group in late 2017.
The bonus money across the three codes includes:
• $350,000 UBET ‘Northern Crowns Series’ for North Queensland thoroughbreds
• $125,000 UBET ‘Origin Greyhound Series’ for Albion Park in July
• $120,000 UBET ‘Grand Slam’ for the Sunshine Sprint and Blacks A Fake in July
Tabcorp’s Adam Rytenskild, Managing Director – Wagering and Media said the new bonuses came at an important time for both RQ and Tabcorp with the major Queensland carnivals looming and the racing spotlight on the Sunshine State.
“As a proud partner of Racing Queensland, Tabcorp is committed to supporting the Queensland racing industry in its efforts to attract the best quality thoroughbreds, standardbreds and greyhounds for these three great initiatives,” Rytenskild said.
“UBET sponsors the headline event in each code - the Stradbroke, the Blacks A Fake and the Gold Cup. These new sponsorships provide additional incentives for connections to chase lucrative prize money in Queensland and will enhance interest from punters.
“Through our partnership with Racing Queensland, Tabcorp will continue to support the industry through funding commitments, sponsorships and wagering initiatives, which help secure a sustainable future for the thousands employed in racing.”
Racing Queensland acting CEO Simon Stout said the sponsorship and bonuses would help entice an even higher quality of racing across the carnival, with an aim to drive interest and in turn, drive wagering on Queensland product.
“This generous sponsorship from UBET and Tabcorp will ensure horses aimed at the North Queensland Winter Racing Carnival will race for up to $2.29 million across seven feature race days. It will also aim to attract some of Australia’s best greyhounds and pacers to Albion Park during July.”
Bonuses of $150K (Stayers) and $100K (Sprinters) will be offered to any horse, which can win three of the five nominated UBET Northern Crown races across feature meetings at Rockhampton,
Mackay, Townsville, Cairns and the FNQ Amateurs. The bonuses will be split between the winning owner (80%) and trainer (20%).
“The bonus will rise to $200K for stayers, and $150K for sprinters if any of the three wins includes races on FNQ Amateurs day on 8 September 2018,” Mr Stout said.
In conjunction with Greyhound Racing NSW, the $120,000 UBET Origin Greyhound Series will be held at Albion Park on 12 July 2018. An additional $5000 will be put toward a strategic marketing campaign to drive attendance and wagering on the night.
“Sport fans across Australia are fascinated by the unique rivalry shared between Queensland and New South Wales. The UBET Origin Greyhound Series will give RQ and GRNSW the opportunity to put our best greyhounds to the test while the town is alive with interstate passion,” Mr Stout said.
The $120K UBET ‘Grand Slam’ will offer a $50K bonus to any horse that can win the UBET Blacks A Fake and Sunshine Sprint double. A further $15,000 is on offer for any horse that can place in both, or wins one and is placed in the other. The bonuses will be split between the winning owner (80%) and trainer (20%).
There will also be a trainer’s bonus of $20,000 for any trainer that can win any two of the following four feature races – The QLD Derby, Blacks A Fake, QLD Oaks and QLD Trotters Cup.
“The $120k in bonuses on offer for the harness carnival aims to ensure some of Australia’s best trainers set their horses for an extended winter campaign, and encourages them to bring multiple runners,” Mr Stout said.
Racing Queensland launched its three-code Winter Carnival promotions in March, with targeted advertising campaigns across print, television, radio and social media to help drive wagering, attendance and overall interest in racing across all three codes.
This will continue throughout the carnival through the ‘We’re Racing Everywhere’ campaign to help clubs grow attendance, and wagering information via the ‘Puntersland’ Facebook and Twitter pages.
Racing Queensland will join with clubs from the Greyhound and Harness codes to help launch their respective carnivals in the coming weeks.
