The Thoroughbred Breeders Queensland Association has held its AGM in conjunction with the National Jockey’s Trust luncheon, to raise funds for injured jockeys and their families.
“This is a tremendous cause that the TBQA is proud to support,” said TBQA President, Basil Nolan.
“The racing industry always rallies in times of need, and it’s terrific to know that the NJT is there to support our riders, and their families if they’re placed in those unfortunate circumstances.”
Toowoomba jockey’s Ben Saunders and Wade Clasohm were injured in a track work fall earlier this year, and are prime examples of how important the NJT is.
“The attitude and recovery of these two men is providing an inspiration to everyone,” said Mr Nolan.
“They are so grateful for the help that they’ve received and have said that it’s this support that motivates them.”
TBQA members were part of a 160 strong crowd, who raised thousands for the NJT through ticket sales, raffles and auctions.
“A big thank you needs to go to Tanya Fullarton and her team at the NJT who organised the luncheon and put so much effort into making the day such a huge success.”
The function was the highlight of the AGM, which saw long-serving committee members, Jeff Kruger and Michael Grieve, and Vice President, Stan Johnston re-elected unopposed.
Mr Nolan also thanked Racing Queensland Chair, Dr Eliot Forbes who was kind enough to address the AGM about Racing Queensland matters, including the Eagle Farm track, wagering and RQ's plans for the future of the industry.
