It was a dream win for connections of Dream Kisses in the very first $150,000 Furnaces@Aquis Crystal Slipper at Doomben on Saturday.
Dream Kisses ($4.80) strode up outside the leader at the 600m on Saturday and raced away in the straight to beat Cool Mover ($17) by three-quarters of a length.
The filly is raced by her breeder, North Queensland farmer Joe Rapisarda, who has been a long term client of Dream Kisses’s trainer, Steve O’Dea and is still celebrating after pocketing $96,000 for first place.
O’Dea said Dream kisses would probably head to Townsville for north Queensland’s major two-year-old race, the Parry Nissan, in three weeks.
“It is a set-weights race, which will suit her, and then Joe can spell her up there,” O’Dea said.
He said the addition of blinkers had helped the promising filly.
Jockey Corey Brown said Cool Mover had a nice run and tried hard in the straight, with a win not far away.
She’s Our Star ($3.30) was three-quarters of a length back in third place after being attacked in the lead in the middle stages.
TBQA President, Basil Nolan was thrilled with the response to the new race which was announced just a few months ago after negotiations between the TBQA, Aquis Farm and Racing Queensland.
"The Furnaces@Aquis Crystal Slipper attracted a high quality field of 2YO filles thanks to the rich prize purse," said Mr Nolan.
"I'm confident we can grow this race to Listed status in a short period of time, with the eventual aim to have a Group race for the 2YO Fillies in the Queensland Winter Carnival, something that's currently lacking."
