What a sensational 2021 The Star Magic Millions Carnival! Congratulations to everyone involved in putting this event together, especially with all the new COVID considerations. I don’t think anyone expected to sale to be as successful as it was. The sale gross for Book One (Tuesday 12th – Saturday, 16th January) was over $197 million with an average price of $253,848 and a clearance rate of 88 per cent - all up on last year's record-breaking figures.
I would like to say a special thanks to the team at Racing Queensland. The TBQA has a developed a great partnership with RQ which sees the two organisations join forces at the sales in a shared marquee to promote all things QTIS. We really enjoy working with the RQ team and are grateful for this strong partnership which significantly benefits everyone in the industry.
The highlight of the week long carnival is of course the $10 Million Magic Millions raceday on Saturday, 16 January and all the special events leading into it were phenomenal. It was great to see the Queensland-bred runners well represented and we need to make particular mention of Better Than Ready’s star galloper, The Odyssey who won the $1 million Racing Queensland Magic Millions QTIS Handicap (1300m) and Spirit of Boom’s Jonker who took out the $1 million Queensland Magic Millions Snippets (1200m), along with Better Than Ready’s Alpine Edge who placed a credible second in the big 2YO feature, the $2million Magic Millions Classic. It’s everyone’s dream to just get to one of these big races, so to be in the winner’s circle is a huge feat. Well done to all!
