2021-22 was a record year of Group producing mares for Queensland. Despite that, it was a unanimous decision when the TBQA Committee voted for the 2022 Queensland Broodmare of the Year…
Congratulations to the connections of MISS ARGYLE the dam of Incentivise!
Miss Argyle was one of those mares every breeder dreams about. Not only did she provide four black-type winners, but she produced a foal every season for her first 10 years at stud. All were winners and among them was arguably the best stayer produced in Queensland in decades, Incentivise.
Steve Tregea first saw Miss Argyle as a yearling and was struck by her conformation, but it was not until she was offered out of training as a breeding opposition that he seized the opportunity to buy her. She had been trained by Gai Waterhouse and started only twice, finishing second in the Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick at her first start.
She was by Iglesia and had been bred at Eureka Stud from Precious Pearl whose dam was a half-sister to the Queensland Oaks winner Mother Of Pearl.
From Tregea’s Windermere Stud west of Toowoomba, she produced the black-type winners Cheyenne Warrior (by Not A Single Doubt), Bergerac (by Drumbeats), Ardrossan (by Redoute’s Choice) and Incentivise (by Shamus Award).
Tregea bred Incentivise when he sent Miss Argyle to Cox Plate and Australian Guineas winner Shamus Award in that stallion’s second season at stud after he determined that it would be a good theoretical mating on paper.
Miss Argyle died two years ago, but Tregea has retained her last filly Flaunt (by Drumbeats) to carry on the family. Flaunt has a yearling filly by Spirit Of Boom and is due to foal to that stallion this spring.
There is no denying that Miss Argyle is a worthy recipient of the 2022 Queensland Broodmare of the Year.
We would like to also acknowledge the other nominees.

To produce a Group winner is every breeders’ dream, and for Queensland to have seven Group producing mares in one season is sensational. Congratulations to all involved!
